Applesauce Cake

1 1/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 cup butter or shortening, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup canned applesauce
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup chopped raisins
2 teaspoons flour

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Lightly butter a 9"x9"x1 1/2" baking pan.

3. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves and allspice together.

4. Beat shortening, sugar and egg in medium-size mixing bowl until light and fluffy.

5. Add flour mixture alternately with applesauce, beginning and ending with flour. Scrape bowl frequently.

6. Mix nuts, raisins and 2 teaspoons flour together; folk into batter.

7. Pour into prepared pan.

8. Bake 40 - 45 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched with fingertip.

9. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Loosen edges with spatula and remove from pan.
