Blondies

3/4 Cup Dark Brown Sugar, firmly packed
2 ounces Butter (1/2 stick), softened
1 large Egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 tablespoon Water
1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Chocolate Chips, semi-sweet
1/2 Cup Walnuts, small pieces

1. Use an 8" X 8" square baking pan. Spray the inside of the pan with nonstick release spray (PAM) or grease the pan with solid shortening and dust with flour, tapping out the excess flour.

2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Position rack in center of oven.

3. Beat sugar, softened butter, egg, vanilla and water until the mixture is smooth and light.

4. Thoroughly blend together the dry ingredients - flour, baking powder and salt.

5. Add dry ingredients to the mixing bowl and beat until they are just blended in.

6. Gently blend in the chocolate chips and walnuts. The dough will be stiff.

7. Spread the dough evenly in the baking pan, using a spatula.

8. Bake for 35 – 40 minutes until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick or cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.

9. After letting the blondies cool for about 15 minutes, turn it out and let it finish cooling on a cooling rack.

Cut into 2-inch squares.
