Double-Deck Brownies

3/4 Cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup coconut flakes
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted

1. Use an 8" X 8" square baking pan. Spray the inside of the pan with nonstick release spray (PAM) or grease the pan with solid shortening and dust with flour, tapping out the excess flour.

2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Position rack in center of oven.

3. Measure sifted flour, baking powder and salt and sift together.

4. Gradually add sugar to eggs, beating thoroughly.

5. Blend in butter.

6. Add flour mixture and mix well.

7. Pour 1/2 cup of the batter into a small bowl; mix in coconut and almond extract.

8. Add chocolate to remaining batter and spread evenly in prepared pan.

9. Drop coconut batter by teaspoonfuls over chocolate batter and spread carefully to form a thin layer.

10. Bake 25- 30 minutes.

11.Cool in pan.

12.Cut into bars or squares.

Yield: @ 20 brownies.
