Skill required: Brownies Lover
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 cup granulated white sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F and place rack in center of oven.
2. Butter and flour an 8 inch square baking pan.
3. Melt chocolate and butter in a stainless steel bowl placed over a saucepan of simmering water.
4. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar.
5. Stir in the vanilla extract and eggs.
6. Stir in the flour, salt and chopped nuts.
7. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 30 - 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
8. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.
9. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
Yield: 16 brownies.
