Chocolate Brownies

WOW scale: 10
Skill required: Brownie Lover

3 ounces Butter (3/4 stick), softened
1 1/2 Cups Granulated Sugar
2 large Eggs
1/2 Cup + 1 tablespoon Unsweetened Cocoa (sifted)
1 Cup + 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 tablespoon Water
1 teaspoon Vanilla
3/4 Cup Walnuts, small pieces

1. Use an 8" X 8" baking pan. Spray the inside of the pan with nonstick release spray (PAM) or grease the pan with solid shortening and dust with flour, tapping out the excess flour.

2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Position rack in center of oven. 1. Beat the softened butter for a half minute, then add the sugar and beat until the mixture is well blended together.

3. Add the eggs and beat them in.

4. Add the sifted cocoa and mix until the batter is smooth.

5. Thoroughly blend together the dry ingredients - flour, baking powder and salt.

6. Add dry ingredients to the mixing bowl and beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.

7. Add water and vanilla and mix them in.

8. Gently blend in the walnuts. The dough will be stiff and sticky.

9. Spread the dough as evenly as you can in the baking pan, using a spatula to smooth down and even up the top.

10.Bake for 35 – 40 minutes or until the top is set and a toothpick or cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.

11.After letting the brownies cool for about 15 minutes, turn it out and let it finish cooling on a cooling rack.
