Date-Nut Torte

2 cups sugar
2 cups dry bread crumbs
2 teaspoons baking powder
4 cups pitted dates, cut up
2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts
Ice cream or whipped cream1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Butter two 9-by-9-by-2-inches pans.
3. Beat eggs until thick and lemon colored.
4. Beat in sugar gradually.
5. Stir bread crumbs and baking powder into egg mixture.
6. Stir in dates and nuts.
7. Spread batter in pans.
8. Bake 35 minutes.
9. Cool; cut dessert in each pan into 12 servings.
10.Serve with ice cream.
Yield: 24 servings.
